Instruction Bucket Group is in the process of creating a generic instructional model design. Group members are in the process of gathering items for this model. These things are posted on their wiki. They would like to have some kind of follow-up to the Jim Knight training at some time. A discussion regarding the specifics of this will be held at a later date.

Review of ESUCC-PDO Committee meetings (Nov & Dec)

DL planning meeting Nov. 15 and Dec. meeting
ESUPDO Master Calendar
2014-2015 Draft ESUPDO Calendar
These two calendars we analyzed. Questions regarding the later scheduled PDO dates for September and May were discussed. More information will be gathered so these questions can be answered. Meetings will be planned to be held the afternoon of July 29th prior to Administrator Days (like has been done in the past). PDO meetings may be condensed to a one day training as opposed to the traditional two day training that has occurred in the past. This will be dependent upon the needs of the organization and the new ESUCC Executive Director.

The PDO meeting in January 2014 will take place on January 22nd. This is a change--it was originally scheduled to be a two day event.

ESUCC Executive Director Selection Process

Dave provided info about this process. Matt is trying to help with the transition, but he will begin his duties as Commissioner Jan. 2, 2014. The ESUCC Executive Director position will be filled, but more than likely not until July 1. The position will be advertised after Christmas and there will hopefully be someone hired some time in March. There will be an interim person in this position in the meantime.

Jim Knight Training

Expenses were reviewed and compared to budget request. Jim's facilitation fee was $500 less that what was budgeted for. 40 people were budgeted for, but there were 53 who had attended. This training was advertised as a free training for SDA members. A discussion as to how the bill is being broken down and who is being charged was held. Dave and Jeff will take these discussion items back to ESUCC so final decisions regarding billing can be taken care of.

Discuss survey results and follow-up needs. Survey comments were overwhelmingly positive.

Amy provided a copy of the new form that will be used. In addition to budgeting for the Strategist book study books, we will budget for the new SDA members to receive a book study book. A discuss regarding budgeted amounts was discussed. It was decided to add an additional $400 for new SDA members. It was also decided to purchase 10 books for the Strategist book study instead of 8. It was decided that food costs for SDA business meetings will be increased from $15 to $20 for 3 events. It was also decided to increase the number of meals ordered to 55 people instead of 40.

Draft Budget Request

The budget reflects expenses for up to 60 participants. Kate will double check to make sure that the facilitation fees are still the same as what was quoted last year. Janet will reserve a room at ESU 3.

We do not have a signed contract. We will wait until ESUCC approves the proposal. RCD is currently holding these dates. It was decided that each ESU would be allowed to invite up to two school district personnel. The group is currently considering charging school district personnel $100 per person to cover the cost of materials and meals. This expense will be reviewed again at the January Strategist meeting to make sure that it is a sufficient amount.

Amy and Denise will work together to refine these budgets for submission. This year budgets should be submitted by the end of January. Next year, budgets will need to be submitted by January 1.

It is essential for leaders to make sure that a vision is not only established for the organization, but is relayed to all stakeholders so the work can be accomplished. We need to continue to be transparent with our organization so communication is open as we work to implement NDE initiatives. It is also important for us to continue to invite PDO participants to be a part of the planning process so they feel ownership.

Update on the Budget Process for 2014-2015

ESUCC is in the process of finalizing the 2014-15 budget. The committee is hoping to have this finalized by the May meeting. Kate will contact Rigorous Curriculum contact to let them know where we are in the process so they continue to hold the November dates for us and ask them to be prepared to enter into a contracted agreement the first part of May.

Next LC Meeting (Date-Time-Place)

Denise's Report: Met Feb. 28th. Every affiliate was represented.

There is an agenda/outline for May meetings is posted online. This meeting will center around the action plans that were create at January PDO. The work from the January meeting was looked at and reviewed by a committee to identify common themes. One theme stated a need to develop a one page document that states what the NDE initiatives are,the timeline for completion, and what is being done to complete them. During the course of the two days, members will be divided into groups so next steps can be determined. Lee Jenkins will be with us on Thursday to lead us in a discussion on systems thinking, which will help us prioritize things, and then develop one statewide action plan that center around these priorities.
